My name is Anneke Gerbrands and I write children’s stories. My books have been published in The Netherlands and New Zealand.

I started writing because I love the shape of stories and the creation of different words on a page. Being able to write both in Dutch and English turned out to be a blessing. It requires different thinking and opens up my mind in different ways. My stories in English are more philosophical where as my stories in Dutch are more quirky and to the point.

I studied Journalism and Communication in the Netherlands, where I received my Bachelor of Communication in 2003. After working at a local newspaper for ten years, where I did both editorial work as well as graphic design, I packed everything up and went abroad for a while. Since then I have lived in Italy, the United Kingdom and South Africa.

Writing comes from reading, and reading is the finest teacher of how to write.

I worked with Ploegsma Publisher, Zwijsen Publisher, Piwaiwaka Press and Image Books.
